Kriyas

There are six cleansing or purification techniques that are known as ShatKarma Kriyas. This is the fundamental and most important aspect of the original Hatha Yoga. 

 

The six Kriyas that constitute Shatkarma are Dhauti, Basti, Neti, Trataka, Nauli and Kapalabhati. These six Kriyas remove any imbalances of the Tridosha or three humours, namely Kapha, Pitta and Vata. The six Kriyas facilitates a balanced function of the body as it removes excess fat, mucus and wind from the system. Practising these kriyas is inevitable for Hatha Yogis, as the effects of Pranayama will be at its best only if the body is clean and pure. All six kriyas must be practised under the guidance and supervision of a qualified teacher or Guru.
